What we currently understand about pain

  • Pain is a protective response that your body and mind contributes to to make you do (or not do) something to protect the painful body part (or parts!)
  • Pain is caused by a complex interaction of biological, psychological and social factors that interact with each other on different levels (we cannot target one and ignore the others)
  • Usually, but not always, pain starts out from a physical injury, but these other social and psychological factors can prolong the pain long after the injury has healed.
  • The longer someone is in pain the more sensitive our body can become. Our body gets “better” at picking up things that could be potentially painful.
  • Certain “threats” to the body can exacerbate your pain. Including but not limited to anxiety, unhappiness, gut inflammation, people and even places

  • Listen to you! We want to listen to your history so we can provide you with the best plan and care.
  • Provide a specific exercise plan catered to your needs and goals. We use safe and guided strengthening movements to improve your capacity to do the things you love better.
  • Deliver a home and/or gym programs to ensure you are active and improving your health out of the clinic.
  • Educate on your pain and/or condition (Improved understanding of why so many things affect pain actually reduces their effect on your pain).
  • Empower you with strategies for pacing and graded exposure so you can get back to the activities you really enjoy.
  • Have fun! Your rehab and exercise should never be boring. We pride ourself on helping you enjoy your experience with us.
  • Always be there to help. We use “physiapp” software so you can track your pain and message us directly outside of your appointment for optimal care.
